“I now have hope — hope my children will have an education, and that they can live in peace and freedom.” – Kinana, refugee and mother of 7 Kinana’s Story of Survival and Hope Displacement has become one of the defining global challenges of our time. Over 122 million people are currently displaced — a number that has grown every year for over a decade and has increased by over 2 million in just the last year. In spring 2025, war and violence in Sudan forced Kinana and her family to flee their home in Khartoum, along with thousands of others. Kinana (who was very pregnant at the time) and her husband led their 6 children on a grueling trek across treacherous terrain into Ethiopia in search of safety. She arrived at the refugee camp exhausted and afraid, uncertain if her unborn child would survive the physical toll of the whole ordeal, because displacement is more than being forced to move — it’s trauma, vulnerability, and violence. However, 3 months after arriving at the refugee camp, our team helped her safely deliver a healthy baby girl. In East Africa, rates of displacement are among the highest in the world and are continuing to increase. Huge influxes of desperate, displaced people are pouring out of conflict areas and crossing international borders seeking help. In 2024 alone, our donors provided essential healthcare for more than 4 million people in Ethiopia, including: Malnutrition treatments Medications Maternal health care Malaria treatment Disease prevention Wound care And so much more… The humanitarian need is greater than ever. And the future is more uncertain than ever. With your help, we can rise to this moment with a love that dares to meet people where they are, in their hardest moments, and refuses to turn away. When you support the work of Medical Teams, you provide more than healthcare: You offer hope and affirm human dignity. Together, we can rise to meet this moment — and dare to love like Jesus.
