Scripture: Luke 2:1–5 Theme: Displaced by Decree Welcome to the first of our Advent Reflections! This holiday season, I wanted to spend some time with you reflecting on the themes of this year’s campaign—“Forced from Home”—and how they resonate within our shared mission to bring life-saving healthcare to those living in crisis. Joseph and Mary’s journey to Bethlehem was not born of desire—it was demanded by decree. A government mandate uprooted them from their home in Nazareth, compelling them to travel under harsh and uncertain conditions. Mary was in the final stages of pregnancy, the roads were long and rugged, and the timing could not have been worse. Yet, even in this disruption, God was quietly orchestrating His redemptive plan—fulfilling ancient prophecy and preparing the way for the birth of the Messiah. We, too, encounter seasons when life is disrupted by forces beyond our control—political decisions, natural disasters, economic instability, or personal crises. These moments can feel unjust, overwhelming, and deeply disorienting. At Medical Teams, we witness this displacement daily—refugees fleeing violence, families uprooted by disaster, and individuals navigating economic hardship in our own communities. But even in displacement, God is not absent. He walks with us through the chaos, works within the disruption, and brings purpose to the journey. Prayer: Lord, we lift up those who have been displaced—by war, politics, disaster, or decree. Be their refuge and strength. May they find comfort in Your presence and hope in Your promises. Help us to trust You when our own paths are disrupted, knowing You are still leading us. Amen. Click below to hear Rachel, Medical Teams’ Engagement Specialist, read this week’s scripture passage!
