Violence forced Aline to flee with Baby Zaninga.

Aline, a young wife and mother of three, worked as a farmer in her native Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), growing beans and maize. When violence came to the DRC, it became too dangerous to stay, and she made the painful decision to leave her husband and two older children to seek refuge in Uganda with her one-year-old daughter, Zaninga.

Aline and Zaninga boarded a refugee transport bus which would take them to Uganda. When they arrived in Uganda, Aline had no idea if the rest of her family was safe or if she would ever see them again. Moreover, Zaninga was suffering with a fever.

Medical Teams was there when Zaninga needed care.

Aline felt alone. She didn’t know where to turn. She was worried about her family back home in the DRC. While she awaited news of her family, Medical Teams cared for her and Zaninga. Medical Teams treated Zaninga’s fever, screened her for malnutrition, and helped Aline prepare for the coming days.

Soon, Zaninga’s health was restored, and she was eating, drinking, and smiling again.

Although Aline’s first few days in Uganda were difficult ones, compassionate care for her and Zaninga helped her know she was not alone, and that she had hope for a better future for her family.

This Giving Day, you can help another child like Zaninga.
