How We Help

When others retreat, we press in.
Because human dignity demands access to medical care.

The world is experiencing the largest refugee crisis in history.

Conflict is cutting people off from the critical healthcare services. Natural disasters are threatening places with no social safety nets.

With over 40 years of experience, we are uniquely positioned to address these challenges by providing primary and emergency medical care for people in crisis.

While we are laser-focused on the work we do best (provide medical care) in the places where we’re needed most, we always partner with other organizations and community leaders to ensure that, together, we can help meet all the critical needs people have during crisis.

Where We Work

Complex International Emergencies

On the edge of conflict or in the wake of disaster, we have the experience and expertise to show up in the midst of an emergency, provide urgent care, and leave the community better than when we found it. Whether this is due to violence, natural disaster, disease outbreak, economic calamity, or some other complex emergency, we are committed to building up teams of local medical professionals, equipping clinics with supplies, and investing in health systems so people have access to care long after we’re gone.

Refugee and Displacement Camps

When masses of people are forced to flee their home in search of safety, temporary settlements are created to help meet some of their critical needs like shelter, water, food, and health care. We are the sole healthcare provider in many refugee settlements across East Africa, serving tens of thousands of people with each clinic. As much as we wish these situations were very short-term, they often turn into permanent communities—we’ve had a presence in some of these camps for decades because the needs just keep growing.

United States

For many in the United States, medical and dental care are simply unaffordable and out of reach. Every year, we host hundreds of mobile medical and dental clinics around the Pacific Northwest, providing free care to anyone who needs it. We send our state-of-the-art medical buses to rural communities, downtown city streets, and suburban shopping centers to make healthcare as accessible as possible.

Our approach

Provide Care

Through our health centers, mobile clinics, pharmacies, and community volunteers, we deliver direct medical care to people affected by crisis and/or facing barriers to healthcare. This includes everything from preventative care like immunizations, blood pressure checks, and medication management to urgent care like addressing malnutrition, treating malaria, delivering babies, and providing emergency surgery. Our teams also provide psychiatric and psychosocial mental health support for those who need it.

Strengthen Healthcare Systems

One thing that really sets us apart is our investment in local medical infrastructure. We build health centers, ship medical equipment around the world, stock clinics with supplies and make sure local teams can continue providing care after we depart. We’re committed to breaking down barriers to health today, tomorrow, and into the future.

Build Up Communities

Large influxes of refugees can interrupt community dynamics and overwhelm social services. We work hard to help communities navigate those changes by supporting long-term residents in surrounding areas, improving and investing in local supply chains, and training healthcare volunteers to serve their new neighbors as they get settled.
