On Friday, March 6, 2020, Martha Holley Newsome presented the keynote address at the 79th annual Governor’s Prayer Breakfast in Olympia, Washington. Modeled after the National Prayer Breakfast held annually in Washington, D.C., the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast was created for leaders to meet together to discuss crucial issues in Washington state.

Over the course of her 18 minute speech, Martha captivated the full hall of Washington State legislators, government officials and citizens in attendance with her theme: “What Does Love Look Like” at a time of international global health concern and public fear about COVID-19.

With her years of preventative public health experience dealing with HIV, Ebola and the plight of displaced persons, she encouraged and challenged the audience to do their small part in helping their neighbor, especially those on the margins.
