Medical Teams International has been partnering with Kaiser Permanente to break down barriers to COVID-19 vaccine access across the Pacific Northwest. By integrating COVID-19 vaccinations and dental services, we’re reducing vaccine hesitancy and bridging the gap in communities who have limited or no access to health care. From May 2021 through today, our partnership has resulted in:

11,691 vaccine doses from 348 clinics in 75 communities

Partnerships are key to promoting vaccine access

Our mobile health clinics have worked closely with community partners, 155 to be exact. They have provided compassionate care for communities including those experiencing houselessness, migrant workers, asylum seekers, undocumented immigrant and refugee populations, people recovering from substance abuse disorders, seniors, and veterans. A large proportion of the people served are in the BIPOC community. Our mobile vaccine-only clinic teams have been serving vulnerable populations throughout the Portland-metro area since May 2021, and our vaccine + dental mobile health clinics have expanded to reach rural areas in Oregon and Washington. In total, we have partnered to provide dental care to nearly 1,300 patients. That’s more than 37,600 miles traveled and 1,800 volunteer hours!

Going where we’re needed most

SeeQuilLouw, or “Grandmother Cedar,” was founded with the goal of providing cultural awareness, learning, healing, and equity to the Native American/First Nation communities within the Pacific Northwest. When founder Will Booth learned that Medical Teams was offering free COVID-19 vaccinations, he jumped at the opportunity to co-host a clinic.

Will Booth is the founder of SeeQuilLouw, an organization partnering with Medical Teams to vaccinate First Nation communities

“SeeQuilLouw is here making sure the community gets correct information about the vaccine… We don’t provide the vaccine, so when I heard about Medical Teams, we planned [these events],” Will said. He also noted that vaccine access in the White Center area of King County, near Seattle, can be difficult. White Center is composed of primarily non-English speaking communities, including large Latinx and American Indian populations. Since these populations are at much higher risk of severe illness resulting from COVID-19, having easy access to vaccines, as well as education on their safety and efficacy, was a critical step toward protecting these communities.

Thanks to our partnership with Kaiser Permanente, community partners, and supporters like you, we’ve been able to help thousands of people right in our own backyard during the pandemic. Help us continue this important work!

A huge thank you to our community partners…
