Pacific NW-based nonprofit sends disaster health kits in hurricane’s path

Portland/Seattle—With more than one million people ordered to evacuate the southeastern United States this week in the face of Hurricane Florence, Medical Teams International (@MedicalTeams) is partnering with local agencies on the ground to distribute disaster health kits to people fleeing the storm. Each kit includes necessities—antiseptic wipes, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and more—that are vital to prevent the spread of illness in the shelters.

“Responding to disasters is central to our calling. Medical Teams is working with trusted partners on the ground who are already distributing Disaster Health Kits to people forced to flee their homes for the safety of hurricane shelters,” said Martha Holley Newsome, Medical Teams International’s president and CEO. “In disasters, a quick response time is critical, so we’ve learned that cash donations are the best way to get people what they need fast.”

Medical Teams International is accepting financial donations to help fund the distribution of these items. Donations to help people affected by Hurricane Florence can be made at https://www.medicalteams.org/HurricaneFlorence.
