(PORTLAND, Ore.) July 29, 2025 – Medical Teams International President & CEO, Eric Ha, recently sat down with Kendra VanderMeulen, CEO of the National Christian Foundation (NCF) for an in-depth, on-camera interview. The two discussed the many challenges and opportunities in the humanitarian sector and the importance of “leading with hope in the hardest places.”

In the interview, one of a series of CEO-to-CEO conversations conducted by NCF, Eric begins by sharing his personal and professional background as a litigator and nonprofit leader, and he then describes the path that led him to his current role. Later in the interview, he talks about his recent visit to Ethiopia and Uganda, where he met Medical Teams staff working tirelessly on the front lines of refugee health care. He also met families and individuals who were forced to flee their homes due to conflict, hunger, and other causes – and in many cases barely escaped with their lives.

In response to a displacement crisis of more than 120 million people worldwide that is only getting worse, Eric expresses that “now is a time when the Church can lead by example” through their generosity because our “calling to serve is unambiguous.” During this continued time of resource uncertainty when the “entire humanitarian relief ecosystem has been upended,” the partnership and support of the Church is more critically needed than ever, he states.
