Communities were devastated in the wake of Hurricane Michael in October, 2018 — the first Category 4 storm to hit the Florida Panhandle since records were first kept more than a century ago. With winds that struck at a staggering 155-mph, buildings were destroyed, roads were blocked, neighborhoods were flooded and many families didn’t know when it would be safe to return home.

Medical Teams worked closely with trusted partners on the ground to distribute Disaster Health Kits to families in evacuation shelters. Thousands of kits reached hard-hit areas.

Disaster Health Kits provide essential items to help prevent the spread of disease and illness in close quarters. Each kit includes antiseptic wipes, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other vital items — enough to meet the needs of one person for a full week and help restore their dignity during crisis.

Responding to disasters — whether natural or manmade — is something that is central to our calling at Medical Teams International. We go where we’re needed most to ease the suffering of those devastated by crises. And we stand ready to respond — we have 40 years of experience providing rapid, life-saving care after tragedies strike.
