Families in North Carolina and across the Southeast were devastated by the impact of Hurricane Florence in September, 2018. Thousands fled to shelters for safety from the violent storm.

Medical Teams worked with trusted partners on the ground who were among the first to help evacuees receive care. In the days following the hurricane, more than 18,600 Disaster Health Kits were provided to families seeking refuge in emergency shelters. These kits provided essential items to help prevent the spread of disease and illness in close quarters. Each kit included antiseptic wipes, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other vital items — enough to meet the needs of one person for a full week and help restore their dignity during the crisis.
