Sinoe County Safe Motherhood Project
Sinoe is extremely remote, extremely poor. Most people have little or no access to health services.
In 2009, after a horrendous 14 year civil war, only 17% of health facilities remained. The Liberian maternity mortality rate is 7 maternal deaths per 1,000 births, chronic malnutrition is rampant (41% of children under 5 have stunted growth), and malaria (although preventable and curable) remains the largest cause of death and illness among children and pregnant women.
- Three year Safe Motherhood project to improve maternal and child mortality and morbidity rates.
- Strengthen the community through health education, and support for maternal and child health.
- Provide training and material support to 7 health facilities.
Medical Teams International is the only organization providing these services in Sinoe.
