Day Fourteen — Portland to Tigard, OR
10 miles walked today
0 miles to go
At 1:30 pm on Thursday, I walked into the parking lot of our office in Tigard -- completing my walk.
This final day was filled with many joys and surprises. Our son, Matt, flew in from Chicago and completely surprised me. He walked with me the entire 10 miles of the final leg, as did Jeff Pinneo, our CEO.
Other staff and volunteers joined the walk at various points. More than 20 walked the final 1/2 mile with me. And, we capped off the day with a wonderful farewell celebration attended by many staff and volunteers who have served with us during the past 16 years.
My thanks to Beth Weibling for coordinating so many details of the walk, for her prayers and encouragement along the way, and for being such a good friend and ally in this effort.
My thanks as well to my wife, Lynn, who was not able to walk with me but who drove every mile and who stayed by my side throughout the entire walk.
And, thanks to the 55 people who walked with me. You brought joy, love and humor that transformed and shaped the entire experience.
At this point, I've got a walk to recover from, a 65th birthday to celebrate and a son and family to enjoy for a few days.
After the weekend, I'll post some final thoughts and reflections on my walk.
But, for those of you who have followed this blog, I did want you to know that, with God's blessing and the prayers, help and encouragement of a lot of friends,
I MADE IT!!
