When I started with Medical Teams International in 1997, our office in Seattle had two staff members working out of a donated, leaky office in a condemned medical office building. The first time I visited the office, we looked at each other and said: “What’s the plan?”
Actually, the plan was simple. We’d talk with everyone we could about the work God had called us to do. We’d invite them to join us. And, we’d commit our efforts into God’s hands.
Over the years, God blessed our efforts. Today, more than 14 staff work out of our 20,000 ft. office at the Mike and Kathy Holmgren Center in Redmond. A Puget Sound Leadership Council of more than 30 people helps guide our efforts. Hundreds of volunteer dental professionals work on four mobile dental vans to serve more than 6,000 people a year. Thousands of generous donors annually contribute millions of dollars of support to our work. The impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of people around the world -- incalculable and incredible.
Nothing represents the growth of our organization more than what God has accomplished in our work in the Puget Sound area over the past 16 years. So many dedicated people contributed their time, talents, energy, money and prayers to make this happen. But, we could not have done this without God’s grace and blessing.
And, that’s why I’m walking 220 miles--the “walking distance” between our office in Tigard and Redmond...and the “blessing distance” between where we were in 1997 and where, with God’s grace, we are today.
