Arrived in Port-au-Prince about 10:00 A.M. today. The city is much as I remember from five years ago except for all the destruction. Our medicines and supplies came through as did all our baggage.  Tomorrow we will go to a large (still standing) hospital to evaluate patients still in need of surgery.  I may be doing some post anesthesia recovery for Dr. Rick Westermeyer, an anesthesiologist from Portland Adventist. It seems there are many people with fractures and other injuries still in need of repair. There has, however, been a lack of anesthesia services. 

The rest of the team, including Curt will be going to the mountains to the of village of Leogane where they will start work in the camps for internally displaced persons. Latrines are being build and water systems shored up in anticipation of the rains coming which will bring severe diarrheal diseases such as cholera and thyphoid fever. Then the people will really suffer.

Curt may have a chance to do some wiring in Leogane. Everything is on generator, or course, since the entire electrical grid was demolished in the quake. However, he can still do some electircal work in the clinics. He will also be helping with any contstruction repair as needed. We have set up our bug nets (mosquito nets), laid out or inflatable mattresses and filtered some water to drink. It rained hard last night and some of the team had been sleeping on the flat roof so they had to dry out their mattresses. Therefore, we will sleep under the covered deck tonight. Will continue write as long as we are in Port-au-Prince. There is no internet in the mountains.
