Cathy Golden in Nicaragua

  • Day 3 | Nicaragua 2010

Well, we did get invited to the party and it was really fun but then I was so tired from our long day that I just wanted peace and quiet to rest but noooo, the party lasted forever and the music didnʼt stop till well after midnight. Geeez.

Breakfast today was fruit, yogurt, rice, beans, tortilla, melon juice, and coffee. I stayed with Sarah instead of going to a church service. We were the only ones to stay back...bad us. The rest of us, excluding Linda, are not Catholic and just went to see if it was going to be “an experience”. Weʼll see what they say when they get back. I am really enjoying spending time with Sarah. She is really friendly, energetic, and smiley. She works lately in the ER and has traveled lots in Latin America. Her Spanish is pretty good. I am having fun getting to know her. After lunch today we leave for the mountains to start our work. I am so anxious by now to get started with it. Patience, Cathy, patience.

On the way to the mountains our little bus broke down so we got to spend a few hours on the hot dusty highway waiting for another one to come from Managua. We passed the time playing Uno, which the Nicaraguans are apparantly just mad for. They play it with an intensity and competitiveness that I didnʼt know existed for this simple little game that I thought only children played. Itʼs hilarious.
