I've never been in Japan before. I've been in the Tokyo airport but only to connect with other international flights.
I don't speak or read Japanese. I knew that getting off an international flight and taking 3 trains during the commuting time would be an adventure. I had talked about this with my wife and asked her to pray.
The train travel was complicated. I had to pay 3 different times, go through 3 turnstiles, make my way upstairs and downstairs through packed train stations to 3 different staging areas.
My last train was a "limited express." This meant it stopped erratically at stations on our route. The train was jammed with commuters. I was the only one with luggage. All the train announcements were in Japanese.
As we rushed through the dark night, I worried that I would miss my station. A young woman in front of me asked in broken English if I needed help. She had been to Ohio. When my station came, she helped me get off the train.
I went through the turnstile and out of one of the entrances down to the street. An American woman was standing there. She asked if I was Bas Vanderzalm. She was a volunteer with CRASH who knew I was coming and decided that she should go to the station to meet me. Together, we walked for 15 minutes to the place where I would be staying.
I told her she was an answer to prayer. She wasn't so sure. But, I knew better. God provided the young woman on the train and God provided the woman who met me at the station.
Thank you for praying for me during my time in Japan. I really appreciate it.
