Our Wednesday Ladies

Mary Elixman, Mary Lou Rueck and Marilyn Smith are who the Communications department fondly calls “Our MMM-wonderful Wednesday Ladies”. Their passion for helping the community brought them to Medical Teams International many years ago but it wasn’t until 2004 after the tsunami in Sri Lanka that they were brought together… and they’ve come back every Wednesday since.

More than Ten Years Worth of Thanks

Dr. Eugene and Phyllis Fankhauser first entered our doors on August 25, 2001. After more than ten years of volunteer service, the Fankhausers are retiring from dentistry. Together, the husband-and-wife team have treated more than 2,600 patients through our Mobile Dental program.

The 80-year-old dentist and his wife, a dental assistant, have spent years in private practice in Clackamas, Oregon while also volunteering their services to more than 200 Medical Teams International mobile dental clinics throughout Oregon. Mobile Dental Clinic Manager Denny Sanders estimates that the couple has provided more than $800,000 worth of dental care to children and families in need. “Dr. Fankhauser and Phyllis have tremendous general dentistry skills and were willing to travel to wherever the need was,” he said. “They have truly demonstrated the love of Christ through their service.”
