While the work of Medical Teams International focuses primarily on developing countries, we continue to respond to large-scale disasters in our own country.

Pacific Northwest Mobile Dental Program, 1989 - Present

The mission of the Mobile Dental Program is to provide free, urgent dental care to low-income children and adults who lack insurance or a realistic way to pay for treatment. Please see the Mobile Dental page for more information.

Pacific Northwest Floods, December, 2007

Hurricane-force winds and pounding rain battered Oregon and Washington states December 2-4, 2007, leaving thousands of people without power or access to their damaged homes. Medical Teams International responded with volunteer teams and financial assistance.

Gulf Coast, September, 2005

Staff and volunteers deployed as soon as possible for the New Orleans convention center, where they set up and managed the medical triage unit at the convention center for evacuees. Volunteers also staffed medical shelters in Lake Charles and Lafayette.

As we established partnerships with local churches, shelters and organizations in both Louisiana and Mississippi, we sent more volunteer medical teams, as well as health supplies and financial support. As the Gulf Coast entered the recovery period, we organized and sent construction teams.

New York City, September, 2001

Trauma counselor volunteers counseled exhausted rescue workers who worked at Ground Zero. Volunteers led Critical Incident Stress Debriefing workshops for a local college and area churches. In 2002, we partnered with five organizations in New York City to help hundreds of families directly affected by the attacks. People donated more than $800,000 to provide counseling, financial assistance and vocational training.

Please donate or volunteer to help our work in the United States.
