HIV and AIDs in Ethiopia
The HIV and AIDS pandemic has affected Ethiopia drastically. Millions of Ethiopian children are orphaned, and millions more women are widowed each year by this harsh disease. AIDS also has drastic consequences on the economic wellbeing of the country. Thirty percent of AIDS-related deaths are among the most productive members of society. In 2009, AIDS claimed 25 million lives.
Our work in Ethiopia
Medical Teams International will fund two major HIV & AIDS programs in partnership with Ethiopian churches in the fiscal year 2012. The project will focus on Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission, voluntary counseling, testing, and treatment. We will also support and educate about HIV prevention within the communities and health care centers.
