Cameroon
Scarcity of medical professionals in Cameroon
In Africa there is only one fully trained general surgeon to every million people. Most surgeons are concentrated in the major cities caring for the wealthy and upper middle classes. This leaves vulnerable millions without access to medical care.
Training African surgeons in their native country is an effective way to work against this chronic lack of manpower. They work locally to create lasting change.
Our work
Medical Teams International will send two training teams this year for a 2-4 week stretch. The teams will train resident physicians through hands-on surgical training, internal medicine residency, and weekly lectures. Their work increases the capacity of local African physicians to provide quality medical care.
