Malawi’s population of 15 million people struggle with poverty and disease. Almost half live on less than $1 a day and the HIV prevalence rate is 12 percent. There are 550,000 AIDS orphans and more than 930,000 people living with HIV and AIDS. Those who are most affected by HIV and AIDS often lack access to medical treatment.

Malawi is a country of priority need for work in the field of HIV and AIDS. Medical teams international will begin new programs that focus on HIV and AIDS support, care, and intervention.
