Questions for thought and/or journaling

Type of activity: Questions that can be used either as (1) thought questions for groups as they tour the exhibit or (2) journaling questions that groups can write about while they are in the exhibit. Print a copy of the questions [PDF].

Grade level: Middle school and high school students

Setting: Can be adapted for use in public schools, Christian schools, other private schools, homeschools, and other groups

As you move from room to room in the exhibit, answer the following questions. You could choose one room and answer all of the questions, or take one or two questions and answer them for each of the eight rooms (beginning with the hurricane room):

  1. Where is the place depicted here?
  2. What happened here?
  3. Who was affected?
  4. What is the need, and what is the real hope that Medical Teams International offers?
  5. What is the most striking and memorable thing about this area?
  6. What would it be like if I were in this situation?
  7. What is happening in this situation today? Are things better or worse? What made the difference?
  8. If I could do one thing to make a difference in this place, what would it be?
  9. Draw a sketch of the most interesting thing you see, and have a caption that explains it.
  10. What is my responsibility toward the people I meet in the exhibit?

In the “I Can Make a Difference” space:

  1. The need is great. What am I going to do about it?
  2. Why is it important to understand that I—one person—can make a difference?
  3. An African proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” What significance does this quotation have? How can my group and I (my class, my school, my youth group) “go far” together?
