Pray for people affected by disaster

“To the poor, O Lord, you are a refuge from the storm.
To the needy in distress, you are a shelter from the rain and the heat.”

Isaiah 25:4

When a disaster occurs in a distant place or here at home, one of the best things we can do is pray for those who are affected.

Here are some suggestions for how you can pray for people affected by disaster:

1. Pray that those who are directly affected will find the help and hope they need.

2. Pray that disaster-response groups will work well together in a way that will save lives and enable people to recover from the disaster as rapidly as possible.

3. Pray that community and political leaders will do all they can to work in the best interests of those who need help.

4. Pray that churches and church leaders in the disaster area will be able to reach out in compassion and love to others affected in their community.

5. Pray that recovery efforts will not be hindered by the difficulties and chaos that often happen after a disaster takes place.

6. Pray that we may find and address the causes of many disasters in our world—poverty, environmental distress, conflict, and sin.

7. Pray that people will give generously to help those affected by the disaster.

8. Pray that God will work in a disaster to touch lives, to show His love, and to accomplish His purposes for those who are affected.

"The Lord lifts the burdens of those bent beneath their load."
Psalm 146:8

Prayer makes a difference.
