Medical Teams International Haiti Blogs

Several of our volunteers and staff have started blogs to share their daily experiences in Haiti.

"We got to La Coline about 9 a.m. and a crowd of people were there waiting for us. We set up our clinic in the wreckage of an old wooden hut. It had a roof and some framed walls and doors, but was mostly open to nature..." March 10, 2010

Fran Hesser, volunteer - read more at Fran's blog

"Latrines are being build and water systems shored up in anticipation of the rains coming which will bring severe diarrheal diseases such as cholera and thyphoid fever." March 4, 2010

Marie Davis, volunteer - read more at Marie's blog

"As time passes after the earthquake, life here in Port au Prince is returning to normal.  Or, perhaps it’s better to say, the new normal." Februray 20, 2010

Bas Vanderzalm, staff - read more at Bas' blog

"This am at 4:30 a.m. a loud malevolent sounding roar came swelling  through our camp from the sea behind and leaped on my bed and violently shock it." Februray 22, 2010

Mary Burry, volunteer - read more at Mary's blog

"As I mentioned yesterday, logistics can be quite an ordeal in a disaster situation. With our new team coming in, we realized the need for more transportation." Februray 17, 2010

Kellen Knott, volunteer - read more at Kellen's blog

"I guess Leogane is pretty close to the epicenter. Getting there is a sport: trying to get through mobs of people, traffic and cracks in the pavement." Februray 1, 2010

Kris Repp, volunteer - read more at Kris' blog

"Transferred another 4 very sick patients out, including 3 to the USS Comfort. Everyone pitched in to work the system to make it happen. What a team effort to pull the right strings. Things were stabilized as we ended our day, despite the strong aftershock." January 25, 2010

Andy Davidson, volunteer - read more at Andy's blog

“Jay Leno said calling it an aftershock is like calling the second twin an "after-delivery". He is right. No matter how you look at it, we had an earthquake early this morning that was a 6.1.The tremor was really scary. When we arrived at the hospital we found our night crew outside with ALL of the patients. They evacuated all of them. They were amazing!” January 23, 2010

Dr. Dan Diamond, volunteer - read more at Dr. Diamond’s blog

"We’ve setup shop in what I’ve heard called the nicest hospital in the country. King’s Hospital was scheduled to open next month, but that timeline has been accelerated a bit." January 19, 2010
