HIV Prevention: Inter-Zonal Music Gala in SW Uganda

by Katie Carroll | Mar 05, 2014

We are excited to share with you a creative approach to HIV awareness implemented by MTI staff in Uganda a few months ago!

On November, 5th, MTI staff hosted an Inter-Zonal Music Gala competition at Kibengo H/CII, a health facility in SW Uganda.  The purpose of the event was to share information about HIV prevention, treatment and care.  Different choirs from churches in Ngarama, Kahirimbi and Kakoma came with creative songs about HIV awareness and competed with one another at the gala.

The competition was an easy way to attract youth in the area, who were drawn by the music.  The idea is that the simple songs about HIV prevention will stick with the audience, and the messages will help change behavior.

Over 2,000 local youth attended the event!  What a breakthrough way to reach a large number of young people with messages about HIV prevention and awareness.

Medical Teams International employs staff at 6 clinics in SW Uganda, and part of that work is HIV/AIDs care and awareness for youth. Your support of our Africa programs is helping to change a generation! Thank you!
