Medical Teams International Awarded Grant to Help Provide Mobile Dental Care in Oregon and Southwest Washington

(Portland, OR, December 30, 2013) -- Medical Teams International received a grant from Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oregon and Southwest Washington (RMHC®) and a matching grant from Global RMHC, totaling $46,850 to provide oral healthcare to children of low-income families. The five Mobile Dental vans that RMHC helps to support provide free or low-cost dental services to more than 1,600 children and adults in Oregon and SW Washington who cannot access and/or afford dental care.

“We’re grateful for the continued partnership and support of the Ronald McDonald House Charities,” said Jeff Pinneo, President & CEO of Medical Teams International. “They share our commitment to caring for the most vulnerable, and their consistent support of our dental program over the years has allowed us to provide urgently needed restorative dental care to more than 12,000 children in the Pacific Northwest.”

RMHC partners with nonprofit programs in the community to deliver critical oral health care to at-risk children. These grants are made possible by a portion of proceeds from donation boxes at McDonald's restaurants in our region and matching funds from RMHC Global.

"Ronald McDonald House Charities is pleased to support the important services provided by Medical Teams International. Pediatric oral healthcare is one of the region's most critical medical needs and challenges," explained RMHC Executive Director Tom Soma. "It's also a preventative complement to the hospitality we offer seriously ill children and their families at our two Ronald McDonald Houses. If, through this program, we can prevent even one child from being hospitalized in the future, we will have more than returned our investment."

Since 1989 Medical Teams International’s Dental Program has provided quality dental services to those with the least access to care. Volunteer dentists, dental assistants and hygienists staff the organization’s 11 mobile dental units in Oregon and Washington. Last year, the program served more than 18,500 patients and provided services valued at more than $8 million.
