(PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 2, 2010)—It was a night to remember. More than 700 volunteers, business leaders and local supporters helped Medical Teams International raise a record-setting $1.34 million at its Oct. 30 Great Adventure Dinner & Auction.

“God blessed us in so many ways at our Great Adventure Auction last Saturday,” said Bas Vanderzalm, president of Medical Teams International. “The generosity and compassion of those who attended was overwhelming. We could not have done this without the incredible efforts of an amazing team of volunteers and staff.”

“The gifts we received will support our mobile dental program here in Oregon and help us save lives and end disease in some of the most difficult places in our world today,” continued Vanderzalm.” That’s the greatest blessing. That on one special night, we joined together to change the world for hundreds of thousands of people whom Jesus called the ‘least of these’ among us.”

The fifth annual event was sold out due to the overwhelming support of our donors and Portland community partners. Presenting sponsors were Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air, Vital Life Foundation, Silicon Forest Electronics, Lexus of Portland and Standard TV & Appliance. Major sponsors included Providence Health and Services, TEC Equipment Inc. and Magaurn Video Media LLC.

Music by two-time, Grammy-nominated Gospel singer Julienne Johnson-Weiss set the stage for a Fund-a-Need request that raised $723,000.

Matt Zaffino, KGW Channel 8 Chief Meteorologist, emceed the evening. The BlazersDancers served as guest spotters during the auction, adding energy and fun to the bidding. Scott and Dana Cress and Mark and Ruth Ann Dodson served as auction chairs. Next year’s Great Adventure Dinner & Auction has been set for October 22.
