(PORTLAND, OR Jan 28, 2010) At 10:00 am on Friday, January 29, Medical Teams International will load the last of three shipments of medicines and medical supplies headed for Haiti. The three shipments, valued at nearly $2 million, will be distributed by Hope International to area hospitals and clinics in northern Haiti.

The specific shipment that will be loaded on Friday is valued at $674,150 and includes gloves, gauze, sutures, needles syringes and crutches. The shipment will travel by train to Florida and then will be put into sea-going containers to be off-loaded in northern Haiti where local hospitals are treating many injured and homeless Haitians who have fled from the earthquake zone in Port-au-Prince.
Medical Teams International currently has 27 volunteers in Haiti. They have already airlifted medicines and supplies valued at more than $1.5 million into Haiti - enough to help 45,000 people.
