Medical Teams International is deploying two volunteer paramedics and one fireman to help organize ongoing rescue efforts in northern Japan.

All three men have previously served with Medical Teams International overseas. They will put their emergency response expertise to work by establishing Incident Command System training in three of the hardest hit areas damaged by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in northern Japan.

The volunteers will help the agency’s partner on the scene, Christian Relief Support Assistance and Hope (CRASH Japan). CRASH Japan is mobilizing hundreds of volunteers to help those who lost their homes with immediate relief needs as well as ongoing trauma needs.

Bas Vanderzalm, president of Medical Teams International, has been in Japan for a week, also helping CRASH Japan organize ongoing relief efforts. He will return Wednesday.
