(PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 9, 2010)— Medical Teams International has a Disaster Response team departing Wednesday, November 10 for Haiti to help with cholera outbreak in La Puente and Port de Paix, Haiti.
Medical Teams International has been battling the cholera epidemic with 31 volunteers and staff for nearly a month. Four volunteers from Seattle and four from Portland will be on this team.
“Last week’s Hurricane Tomas dumped several inches of rain into the two areas where the teams are working – causing more cases of cholera,” said Tammy Teske, manager of emergency relief for Medical Team International.
“We are stepping up our efforts to help local partners meet the increasing needs of people encountering cholera in the flooded conditions,” Teske concluded. “We appreciate our experienced volunteers willing to go so quickly to meet these needs.”
