(SEATTLE, WA June 18, 2009) Largest crowd in 10-year history gathered to support Medical Teams International's work
Medical Teams International raised nearly $1.7 million at its 10th Annual Field of Dreams Dinner and Auction on Saturday night at Safeco Field. The dinner and auction drew 820 guests, the largest turnout in the event’s 10-year history.
Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and his wife Sarah and Horizon Air CEO Jeff Pinneo and his wife Janey co-chaired the event. Honorary Chair and former Seahawks Coach Mike Holmgren kicked-off the dinner and live auction by delivering the evening’s invocation.
Items that were auctioned off included a 10-day trip to Hawaii, tickets to see Oprah and the opportunity to travel to Latin America with one of Medical Teams International’s global health experts to see the current work Medical Teams is doing there.
Internationally, this non-profit humanitarian relief and development agency has deployed more than 1,900 volunteer teams and shipped over $1.2 billion in antibiotics, surgical kits and lifesaving medicines to care for 35 million people in 100 countries.
In the Pacific Northwest, Medical Teams runs a mobile dental program that provides care for more than 16,000 patients annually. The program, which provides approximately $5.8 million worth of dental care every year, wouldn’t be possible without the 900 dental professionals who donate their time to help people in need.
Nearly 97% of all proceeds given to Medical Teams International goes directly to providing medicines and urgent care to people affected by disaster, conflict and poverty around the world. To contribute, please visit the donation page or call 1-800-959-4325.
