(PORTLAND, OR July 2, 2009) Charity Navigator, America’s largest and most-utilized charity evaluator, recently awarded Medical Teams International four stars, its highest rating. This charity watchdog reviews more than 5,400 charities annually and estimates that it influenced more than $10 billion in charitable giving last year.
“This ‘exceptional’ designation from Charity Navigator differentiates Medical Teams International from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust,” writes Ken Berger, president & CEO of Charity Navigator.
Charity Navigator rates charities by evaluating two areas of financial health; their organizational efficiency and their organizational capacity. They issue an overall rating that combines the charity's performance in both areas. This four-star rating shows givers how efficiently Medical Teams International will use their support, and to what extent.
“This evaluation is a true testimony to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, staff and board,” says Linda Ranz, vice president of development at Medical Teams International. “We focus on financial efficiency and good stewardship in every decision our organization makes so that more than 96% of gifts go to our programs and services.”
Since 1979, the Portland-based relief agency has shipped more than 1.2 billion in antibiotics, surgical kits and lifesaving medicines to care for 35 million people in 100 countries around the world. More than 2000 volunteers meet the needs of people worldwide each year.
