Medical Teams International, Boeing Send Aid to China

by Barbara Agnew | Dec 05, 2013

(PORTLAND, ORE - May 24, 2008) Partnering with Boeing, Medical Teams International air shipped nearly $500,000 in supplies this morning to help survivors of China’s deadly earthquake.

An estimated 55,000 people died in last week’s earthquake—one of the deadliest disasters to hit China in decades. Nearly 5.4 million Chinese are displaced and are in desperate need of tents, food and medicines. Medical Teams International’s shipment of antibiotics, bandages and pain relievers will help nearly 100,000 of those most severely affected in the disaster.

“Our partnership with Boeing will help us rush badly needed medical supplies to the area affected by the terrible earthquake in China," says Bas Vanderzalm, president of Medical Teams International. "We're grateful as well to Mercy Corps for distributing these supplies so that those who have lost so much will get the help they need."

China’s earthquake is the second major disaster Medical Teams International is responding to this month. The agency is also working in Myanmar where a cyclone earlier in May killed a reported 100,000 people and displaced nearly 2.5 million more.
