[PORTLAND, Ore. • Nov. 18, 2009] - More than 800 volunteers, business leaders and local supporters helped Medical Teams International raise a record-setting $1.3 million at its Nov. 7th Great Adventure Dinner & Auction.
“It was a miracle of God’s grace, of hearts eager to give, of talented people working together to change the world for thousands of people who have nothing,” explained Bas Vanderzalm, president of Medical Teams International. “The impact of this auction will be seen in communities around the world. With these funds, we’ll help families with dental needs here in the Pacific Northwest as well as send additional volunteer medical teams and supplies to places like Ethiopia and Vietnam.”
Presenting sponsors were Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air, Silicon Forest Electronics, Inc. and Standard TV & Appliance. Major sponsors included Oregon Emergency Physicians, Providence Health & Services, Expresscopy.com, Lexus of Portland, Magaurn Video Media and Colliers International.
Music by vocalist Julienne Johnson-Weiss set the stage for a Fund-a-Need request that raised more than $750,000. “This goal was made possible by a $125,000 matching grant from the Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund and the support of its Executive Director Christopher Folkestad,” added Vanderzalm.
Matt Zaffino, KGW Channel 8 Chief Meteorologist, emceed the evening. Kathi McCoy, Scott and Dana Cress served as event co-chairs. Dr. Mal and Janeen McAninch served as honorary co-chairs.
