Celebrate National Nurses Week. This week we recognize the work of all of our nurse volunteers. One nurse volunteer in particular, Cindy Bickley, has volunteered on six medical mission trips with Medical Teams International. Read our article about her that is posted on One in a Million.


Charity Navigator awards Four Star Rating. Charity Navigator has awarded Medical Teams International with its highest charity rating of Four Stars. The rating is based on financial performance, accountability and transparency. See the details on our Financials page and on Charity Navigator.


Malnutrition impacting children in Guatemala. Nearly 70% of children living in the indigenous communities of Guatemala are chronically malnourished. Hunger is causing the children's physical and mental growth are stunted. A recent interview with Bas Vanderzalm reveals the scope of the problem, the work of Medical Teams International to help address the issue and what you can do to help.


Conflict in South Sudan. The World Health Organization  has alerted Medical Teams International about the growing conflict between Sudan and South Sudan over the oil fields in the region. Currently the 83,000 refugees in a nearby area are safe, however the conflict and the pending rainy season could compromise their safety and well being. Medical Teams International is monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as the situation changes.

Teams in the field this week

Guatemala: Community Health (Two teams)  
Two teams are in Guatemala working with our field office to improve the health of families in their homes by improving ventilation. The teams are also working in small communities by improving community sanitation systems. 

Guatemala: Capacity Building
A team is in Guatemala working with our field office focusing on capacity building, logistics coordination and volunteer support. 

Guatemala: Dental
A team of 15 volunteer dental professionals is in Guatemala working with our field office to address the severe dental hygiene needs of women and children.

Haiti: Physical Therapy
A Physical Therapy team is in Haiti working through our field office with our partner, Centre Medical Beraca, to provide obstetrical and gynecological training and direct care support.  

Moldova: Dental
A Dental team of two dentists, two hygienists, two assistants and two layworkers is departing for Moldova to work with our Moldova field office. The team will work in a remote village providing restorative and curative care. 

Mozambique: Program Assessment
An International Assessment team is in Mozambique to work with our partner, Kuwangisana. The team will perform an analysis of the program's positive impact to the region, identifying successes and potential opportunities for improvement.

Uganda: Disaster Relief (Two teams)
Two Disaster Relief teams are in Uganda assisting our national staff in the medical treatment of those living in a local refugee camp.

Shipments en route this week

We have a shipment en route to Greece, Liberia and Uzbekistan.

Mobile Dental clinics scheduled this week

There are 38 Mobile Dental clinics scheduled in Oregon, Washington and Minnesota.
