Charitable Gift Annuities
With a charitable gift annuity, you simultaneously make a donation to Medical Teams International and receive a fixed amount of money each year.
- If you are single, the payments will continue for the rest of your life.
- If you are married, you may choose a joint-and-survivor annuity that continues as long as either spouse lives.
- It is also possible to provide a lifetime annuity for someone other than yourself and your spouse a parent, sibling or child, for example.
The size of the payments depends on the age(s) of the annuitant(s) and the amount of your contribution. (The minimum amount to establish a gift annuity with Medical Teams International is $10,000.) The older the annuitant(s) when the annuity starts, the larger the payments will be.
It is even possible to defer payments for several years, so that when they do begin, they are significantly larger than if they had begun immediately. If you are still in your working years, a deferred-payment gift annuity can serve as a supplemental retirement plan that provides current tax benefits.
Part of your contribution is tax-deductible in the year the gift is made, and almost always a portion of each year’s payments will be tax-free for many years. If appreciated property is contributed, tax on the gain is reduced and spread over many years.
