Uganda

Rebel violence has intensified on the Congolese side of the border, causing a massive inflow of refugees into neighboring Uganda. Medical Teams International, in partnership with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHRC), is already on location, providing health screenings and treatment for incoming refugees.

In just the past few days, the flow of refugees into Uganda has risen from 200 per day to nearly 1500 per day. Many of these refugees are pregnant women and children.

More than 26,000 Congolese refugees have crossed the Uganda border fleeing the conflict. An additional 4,000 more are waiting to get into Uganda for safety.

The UNHRC has asked Medical Teams International to mobilize volunteer doctors and nurses to provide primary healthcare services and to send medical supplies for respiratory illnesses, malaria and other infectious diseases.

India

Nearly 6 million people in India have been forced to flee their homes as the worst monsoon floods in more than a decade hit the remote areas of Assam. More than one hundred people are missing or dead.

Nearly all of the homes, farms and businesses are under water. Camps of temporary relief shelters have been set up in the few elevated villages.

We are responding to this disaster through our partner Emmanuel Hospital Association, a locally based organization with a network of disaster relief medical and health professionals in the underserved areas of rural North India.

Together, we are delivering water purification systems for shelters, medical services and nutritional supplements for children. We are also helping control the spread of infectious diseases.

Please support our work and our partner in India with a donation today.
