New roof improves health of entire family
Mrs. Mut Neang lives in Andong Village, Cambodia with her husband, four children and five grandchildren. The house they shared had a deteriorating thatched roof that no longer kept the rain out. It was very difficult to prepare food when the ground was muddy and other surfaces for food preparation were wet.The leaking roofs were not only making her family miserable but many of her children and grandchildren were getting sick with colds and fevers.
Medical Teams International partnered with Imago Dei, a Portland, OR area church, to replace the aging, leaking thatched roofs in Andong Village with new corrugated tin roofs and in some cases addition of a second story.
Mut breaks into a huge smile when she talks about what it is like to have a new second story and a corrugated tin roof. She is grateful Medical Teams International and Imago Dei who made it possible. The new corrugated roofs have gutters which funnel rain water into covered cement basins to be used for drinking and cooking.
Health has improved remarkably for Mut and her family as well as the rest of Andong Village not just because of the new roofs but also because of health and sanitation training that Medical Teams International has provided to the community.
