(PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 5, 2010)—Last night, the Oregon Historical Society honored Medical Teams International with its History Maker Award.
“History Makers are contemporary individuals who have made a significant impact in their field of work or service during their lifetime…Oregon History Makers represent the best of what the state has to offer, ” the Society reported.
“This award recognizes thousands of Oregonian volunteers who have served with Medical Teams International over the years,” says Bas Vanderzalm, president of Medical Teams International. “These volunteers give their time to care for people in need. Not only do they travel to some of the most difficult places in our world, they serve thousands of Oregonians each year on our mobile dental vans and help us ship donated medicines and medical supplies to more than 50 countries from our distribution center in Tigard. Every day, our volunteers are saving lives and healing disease. On behalf of these “History Makers,” we’re honored to receive this recognition.”
