Training Designs and Manuals
The following training materials help improve the effectiveness of teachers and students on the topic of improving health and behavior in mothers and children.
- Medical Teams International Child Survival Facilitators Guide [PDF]
The facilitators guide was developed to equip volunteer Community Health Promoters (CHP) in a Child Survival Project with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to teach and support Household Health Promoters (HHP) to prepare for their work. HHPs will in turn pass on the knowledge and help the community to adopt new behaviors to improve health among women and children in the target area of Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia. The guide is divided into six modules including: facilitating adult learning, breastfeeding and nutrition, immunization, diarrhea, malaria and pneumonia. Each module has several lessons with suggested teaching activities, teaching aids, presentation and facilitator notes.
- Designing for Behavior Change [PDF] [CORE Group]
This field-tested, six-day training package will enable private voluntary organizations (PVOs) and partners to replicate the BEHAVE workshops conducted with CORE Group members. The manual consolidates handouts and facilitator materials with easy-to-use training guidelines. It is built upon the BEHAVE Framework, developed by the Academy for Education Development (AED). The framework is a strategic planning tool for programs that have major behavior change components.
- Learning to Listen to Mothers [AED]
This manual provides guidelines and instructions for planning and conducting a two-day Growth Monitoring and Promotion (GMP) workshop. The training is designed for field supervisors and community health workers already skilled in weighing and charting child growth so they can focus on "strengthening communication" aspects of their practice.
- Participation for Empowerment: A Manual for Development Agents [PDF] [CARE]
This manual was developed as a guide to assist in training field staff to adopt techniques and attitudes that promote community empowerment in their program planning and day-to-day activities. It is not intended for the participants to replicate the training with community groups, but rather to put the concepts and skills into practice themselves. This should be made clear to the participants. This manual is presented in the form of a workshop, lasting approximately five days, with all the instructions needed to replicate the workshop. It is intended as a guide, rather than a blueprint of every workshop detail, to be adapted to local issues and priorities.
