Monitoring and Evaluation Manual [PDF] [Medical Teams International]
The manual is designed to help project managers, monitoring and evaluation coordinators and project implementers gain familiarity with basic monitoring and evaluation concepts. The manual includes broad overview information, as well as, details regarding how to make monitoring and evaluation plans and how to carry out specific monitoring and evaluation methods, such as quantitative surveys and qualitative research. Considerable emphasis is given to preferred tools, surveys and approaches used by Medical Teams International, which are standard for U.S.-based NGOs.
Project Cycle Management Manual [PDF] [Medical Teams International]
The manual was designed to accompany a workshop and an online course available to Medical Teams International staff. The purpose of the course is to increase participants’ understanding and skills related to the major elements of the project cycle. However, most of the course content is found in the manual and it can be a valuable resource without access to the course for anyone interested in learning more about project cycle management. A Spanish Version of this manual is available.
Gender responsive programming
Gender and Development [Centre for Development and Population Activities]
A comprehensive five-day, nine-session curriculum for use by trainers of program managers and development workers in the private and public sectors. Field tested in Africa, the curriculum is designed to enable development workers to create gender-responsive institutions, policies, programs and projects. It examines gender influences in the participants' own lives, cultural reinforcement of gender roles and relationships and how these affect the development process. Although this is a training manual, it can also be used as a self-guided learning tool and reference. A Spanish version [PDF] of this manual is also available.

Gender Handbook [PDF] [Inter-Agency Standing Committee]
Section B of the handbook, Areas of Work, is the most relevant as it discusses practical application of the guidelines. For example there is a chapter on “Gender and Health in Emergencies”. The handbook was developed by members of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC). The IASC is a is a unique inter-agency forum for coordination, policy development and decision-making involving key UN and non-UN humanitarian partners established in 1992 to strengthen humanitarian assistance.
